Evolutive Optical Fibers Combining Oxide and Chalcogenide Glasses with Submicronic Polymer Structures

چکیده

Multimaterial optical fibers combining tellurite with chalcogenide glasses and featuring thin polymer structures are fabricated via the thermal drawing process. It is demonstrated that micrometric polyethersulfone films can be embedded within larger elongated tellurite/chalcogenide glass architectures. Taking advantage of strong chemical reactivity contrasts which exist in considered fiber geometries, a quasi-exposed-core waveguide obtained by selective etching cladding. The potential postprocessed structure then assessed through evanescent-wave probing liquids numerical investigations carried out to establish device performances as function selected optogeometric parameters. Those results open way for development evolutive photonic objects benefiting from postdrawing processing multimaterial fibers.

Linear and nonlinear optical properties of chalcogenide microstructured optical fibers

Chalcogenide glasses are known for their large transparency in the mid-infrared and their high linear refractive index (>2). They present also a high non-linear coefficient (n2), 100 to 1000 times larger than for silica, depending on the composition. we have developed a casting method to prepare the microstructured chalcogenide preform. This method allows optical losses as low as 0.4 dB/m at 1....

Micro-Optical Lenslets by Photo-Expansion in Chalcogenide Glasses

A detailed study of the wavelength dependence of the formation of lenslets by photo-expansion in chalcogenide glasses is reported. Photo-expansion in chalcogenide glasses offers a one-step fabrication process to record surface structures such as gratings and microlenses. The process is purely optical and requires no fixing and etching to get the desired surface structure. Two competing effects,...

Multimaterial preform coextrusion for robust chalcogenide optical fibers and tapers.

The development of robust infrared fibers is crucial for harnessing the capabilities of new mid-infrared lasers. We present a novel approach to the fabrication of chalcogenide glass fiber preforms: one-step multimaterial extrusion. The preform consists of a glass core and cladding surrounded by a built-in, thermally compatible, polymer jacket for mechanical support. Using this approach we extru...
